Google Adwords has commenced the beta testing of longer descriptions of Adword advertisements.
An email invitation has been sent to AdWords beta testers that offers them the opportunity to use up to 200 characters in the description field. The limit was previously 70 characters for the total description field.
This appears to be a direct attack on the upcoming Yahoo! Publisher Network which will permit advertisers to use longer field lengths.
This move will reduce Yahoo!'s ability to identify any points of differentiation between its service and Google. However, despite this, there still seems to be ample room for both advertising networks to flourish in the current advertising market.
