WARNING - I should mention I have not tried this yet where there are sub sub forums. Please do not use this method until I have tested it. I have a feeling it might cause problems.

Hi everyone,

In case you also use Invision Power Board, and if you are wondering how I added the Forum Icon Images in the Forum Description then it is really quite easy.

I have inserted the images into the forum description using a table format.
See below for an example -

<table cellSpacing="0" cellPadding="3" width="100%" border="0">
<tr><td valign="top" align="left" width="33"><a href="http://www.adsenseforums.net/index.php?showforum=4"><img alt="Adsense Keywords & Earnings" src="http://www.adsenseforums.net/images/dart.png" width="32" height="32" border="0"></a>
</td><td valign="top">» Discussion on how to identify top keywords.
» Find out what others are earning with Adsense.</td></tr></table>

This is the field description I have used for the "Adsense Keywords & Earnings" sub-forum. And the image that appears is the "dart" png file.

Here is a screen shot of the final product -

I learnt how to do this in the invisionize forums. The original post was by YBJS in the
(S) Forum Icons v1.0 thread. See an extract below. Note that we are doing it stlightly differently but either method seems to work -

Quote

Within "Forum Description" do it like this:
<table cellSpacing="0" cellPadding="3" width="100%" border="0">
<tr><td align="left" width="10%"><img alt='xxxxxxx' src=http://xxxxxxx.ipbhost.com/html/Icons/chat.gif width="32" height="32">
</td><td width="1%"></td><td width="81%">Say HI or Chat About Anything.</td></tr></table>

The above xxxxxxx is where u put in your forum addy name.
Put all your Forum Icons within a new folder called Icons - making sure that the gif names r exact case name to the gif within "Forum Descripton". Upload the whole folder to www/html/. U can also add more or less for the CellSpacing and the returns to suit your need. The above cellSpacing and returns work well for my forum in layout. Done!

Cheers, Glen

p.s. if you have any alternative method to displaying forum icons or forum images in the forum description please let us know.

Good job Glen, I really like the forum icon idea, I'll give it a shot this weekend to see how it works on my new site. I've had this idea of inserting a banner about the size os 234x60 for each forum, but that's only because my new site is a directory, so each of the listing could submit their own banner.
