Google said it had begun testing a new version of its AdSense program that enables advertisers to choose on which Web sites they appear, to create moving graphical images on their banner ads and to pay based on how many times their ads are seen....

Currently, AdSense users pay on a per-click basis. The cost-per-view approach is more akin to the one taken from the start by traditional interactive marketing firms such as DoubleClick......

Google said it is currently testing the program with some advertisers and will open it to all users in the next few weeks. AdSense, which launched about two years ago, was expanded last year to include graphic-laden banner ads for the first time, a move that surprised many observers because of Google's strict adherence to text-only ads.

I believe this development would be terrific for sites with high volume of traffic such as forums that have a low click-through rate for ads. A shift to Pay Per View (PPV) would offer these sites with a more reliable Income.

Also, the ability for advertisers to target particular websites will mean that some sites that target a particular niche topic and which are well known to advertisers are bound to benefit. The key of course is that the advertiser is aware of your website and feels that it would be a good medium through which to promote its goods or services. If your site is a relative unknown or is a hobby site that lacks a professional polish then I suspect you would be disadvantaged by this new system. For this reason, it would make sense to start polishing up your sites if they look a bit on the amateur side!

AdSense for domains is a relatively new service from Google that allows site owners to place AdSense on pages where no content exists. If a domain name has been registered but the site is still under construction, AdSense can now be placed on these “parked domains”.
