Hi everyone,

In the new site-targeted campaigns now open to Adwords advertisers, the advertiser must choose to pay for their ads on a pay per 1000 impression basis (CPM).

The minimum spend for these site-targeted ads is US$2.00 per 1000 impressions.

These CPM ads will compete with Cost per Click (CPC) Ads in the usual auction-style and so a site-targeted ad will only appear if it out-bids the CPC ads also available for the particualr website in question.

As far as I can tell, if someone actually clicks on a site-targeted ad then the publisher (i.e. website owner) won't make any money. The money earned is the CPM income only. In any case, you can expect that these ads will not be designed for people to click on them. The whole idea is to get "exposure" - i.e. they want people to see the Ad and they do not necessarily have a need for people to visit their website (if they even have one!).

To facilitate this new "exposure" focus, a new ad block has been introduced by Google. The new expanded text ad fills an entire ad unit on its own, rather than being grouped with other text ads. Expanded text ads will have the same character limits and the same editorial guidelines as typical text ads, but are displayed solo and with enlarged text.

Note that expanded text ads are not available for cost-per-click (CPC) pricing as yet.

Don't be surprised if Google rolls out CPM advertising for ALL Adsense advertising eventually. I believe the current availability through site-targeted ads only is just a trial of the concept before it is released to the masses.
