Hi everyone,

Not sure how you guys are going but my adsense earnings have been down the last 2 months. So, in desperation, I am trying to selectively turn on image ads on some of my sites. (they were always crap in the past but who knows maybe things are different now).

I have a PHP script where I rotate between quite a few ad types. Some are google ads and others are for various affiliates (e.g. CJ provides ebay ads, and I am mucking around with clixgalaore, chitika and commissionmonster.com.au).

Now what I am going to do is rotate 3 types of google ads into the mix. One will be the normal leaderboard type with a blended background (and it will be text ads only). Then I will have another "text ads only" ad with a bright background that somewhat clashes with the white background (to avoid ad blindness).

Then I will have a third type of google ads that are "image only". And I will track the performance of all of these using the new "multiple channels" feature i mentioned the other day.

I will let you know how i go!!

Cheers, Glen

hi guys, admittedly it was not a very long test but i have to say that the image ads had a terrible click through rate so i am going back to text only ads. was worth a try.

i will keep mucking around with the blended and occasional non-blended ad to see if this is of any value. though so far the blended ads are doing better. overall though my click through rate is a lot lower than it used to be 2 months ago.

cheers, glen

my experiment has pretty much come to an end. all the alternative ads i tried did not convert into $$$. the image ads were terrible. the text ads with a nonblended background were very bad. and the ebay ads paid a crap commission even though i had a few sales generated. chitika did pay a few cents here and there but the click through rate was very low.

i guess if my website readers were buying big ticket items (e.g. a plasma TV) the commissions from ebay would have been better.

i am back to my old style adsense script (sort of like the one in this forum). the only difference is that i include a random ebay advert which is displayed about 10% of the time. i am a little stubborn and still have a wild hope that i will make a decent commision one day from an ebay sale! though i might be dreaming.

cheers, glen
