This is as basic as it gets; bear with me please. Okay, so when Google sends me the ads, I can place them on any page in my site? I don't have to place them on every page, such as the index page. Is that correct?

Also, as far as I can tell, it seems like the implementation would be similar to using a java applet or an image or whatever-- you just place it in the html wherever you want? So, in other words, to make it easier to fit into my pages that are already made, I could just add another table to the html containing the code for the ads? Thanks.

there are some pages that you are not allowed to place the ads on, e.g. registration pages etc...

Quote

(v) display any Ad(s), Link(s), or Referral Button(s) on any error page, on any registration or "thank you" page (e.g., a page that thanks a user after he/she has registered with the applicable Web site), on any chat page, in any email, or on any Web page or any Web site that contains any pornographic, hate-related, violent, or illegal content;

apart from those restrictions you can place the ads wherever you want on your site. you do not need to place them on your index page if you don't want to.

putting ads in a html table is a fine option. but really you need to decide where on the page you actually want the ads. then you work out how the code is going to achieve that desired position. generally you will do beter if the ad is "above the fold" (i.e. people see the add straight away and don't need to scroll down the page to see it).

there are a fair few optimization tips on the google site to get you started:

Okay, thanks! Here's another.

I want to use a seperate two-row table above the fold. In the top row would be four generally relevant images (astronomy equipment and astrophotography is the subject.) How often will these text ads change? Will I be able to switch the images to make each one even more relevant to the text ad beneath it?

Thanks, again.

that is a great idea steve but i don't know how to do it unfortunately.

you will probably find it will work well even without the switching of images to match the ads....so i would just give the simple "non-switching" implementation a go.

cheers, glen
