Here is a nice example of an ad link with a background image with drop shadow.

I came across this example today. Notice the picture of the boy and how his right hand is pointing (in a discrete way) at the Google Adsense Ad. Apparently the Adsense team has reviewed this ad and said it was within the Terms of Service (TOS).

I'm also reading that a tw-toned vertical line is producing good results: take a look at what I mean at http://www.christmas-worldwide.com/ (my new Christmas site).

I can't confirm that at the moment - haven't got the traffic to judge Maybe this time next year

the two toned line looks good! though you would have been better off making a gif rather than a jpg. the GIF file would be smaller and clearer too.

not to worry any of you but putting images next to the adsense adverts is now banned.

the most successful place i found mine to be is in the sidebar, with nothing else just the ad - www.webberscorner.com. that is has brought in over 50% of my income and it is only on the homepage!

Thanks for mentioning that tyros. I forgot about this thread and should have included a warning about this issue.

generally speaking top left or top centre is good.

you have gone for bottom right which is usually not very good.
