Hope to have my new site up and running by tomorrow night - Tuesday 31 January, 2006. It's all about babies, not the dolly type but the type with dirty bottoms :) Tell you all about it then.

Anyway the hard work is not completed the empire has to be built. I'm now starting on a redesign of my old ABC Writers Network site and I would hope to have it finished in a few weeks time. I'll let you know when it is.

But I need help. I would like to add an RSS feed to the ABC site from some of the major newspapers, magazines, or broadcasters. But to be quite honest I don't know how.

I read somewhere in the distant past to avoid using a javascrip version of RSS, that it is quite easy to put into the site really just a matter of cut and paste but I'd be wasting my time as search engines don't read the scrip and can't see that the site is constantly changing. That's one of the main reasons I want to add an RSS feed so that the search engines will see a constantly changing home page.

There is something in the back of my mind telling me that it has to be converted into html - but I stand to be corrected

Anyway I haven't a clue about placing someone elses RSS feed on my site. Help, advice, comments, information, links all greatly appreciated.

Well I'm up and running at

http://www.babies-worldwide.com come on over and take a look.

Seriously though I would appreciate it if you did take a look. Let me know if you see any obvious bo-bos - thanks.

A few comments about the site. It's my first in php and I think it will be my last, I don't like working with it.

I had a php template drew up from a design I gave to someone who dabbles in php. He told me it was difficult to set in menus/subdirectories like you can with html so if only for that reason I'll stick to good old html.

In addition I spent some time with ad placements, which I believe is most important. I had quite a bit of problem getting the main ad in the body to stay above the fold and eventually positioned them manually. What do you think of the placement.

Comment, good or bad is welcomed.

Hi Kevin,

I tried to fix up one of the graphics for you. I resized it to the correct dimensions and tried to clean it up (see attachment).

Site is looking pretty good. Though I would have put 4 rather than 5 pictures across the top of the page (since that is more likely to line up with the ads below...presuming 4 ads actually appear).

also i would drop the adsense referal button since your audience is unlikely to be interested.

in response to your first question, there was some discussion of rss imports here - http://www.adsensefo...?showtopic=1638

cheers, glen

Ah! Yes the graphic, never really noticed that until you pointed it out!

The site was built using Article Miner so the origional graphic is within a AM template so I'm going to have to see how to alter it - it might take me some time to get around to it. But thanks for picking it up.

Yes I agree with you four images would probally be much better than five. My intention with this site is to keep adding to it over the next six months or so, so that the bots will keep coming back to it. Five new articles now, five again. So what I'm in the process of doing is gathering together about 30 or so 'baby images' and I'm then going to go and look myself a rotator script that will rotate the images so that the visitor is not presented with the same image on each page.

You are probally right about the referal button but it come with the design and I never gave it much though.

ps re the rss do you use other peoples feeds on any of your sites and if so do you find it useful?

i use some feeds on this site! look in the rss news section...and NO i don't find it useful...if anything i am probably being punished for duplicate content. so i will probably remove them.

if you do go for a feed then i would pick a less common one..something like BBC NEWS would be too common i think.

regarding the graphic above...all you need to do it FTP the image over the old one (though please keep a backup just in case!) cheers, glen
