I was doing some research this evening on Adsense ebooks and came across one that is supposedly very good (if you believe the author and his friends!). The book is called "What Google Never Told You About Making Money with AdSense" and is written by Joel Comm.

With all these "secret" ebooks I am always skeptical and...well i still am actually. But I read through some of the happy customer reviews and one was by Alice Seba who has provided a few adsense tips on her own site at http://www.aliceseba.com/adsense.htm.

The tips can be summarised as follows -

1. Don’t use borders
================================================

Alice has found that invisible borders are best because the adsense block looks less like an advertisement.

2. Make the link color the same as the links on your website.
================================================

Alice has found that the Adsense links need to be the same color as standard links on her site for best results.

3. Don’t use the towers and put them off to the side of your content.
================================================

Alice belives tower ads are only effective for graphic ads. She says that it is a mistake to have ads off to the side of the content. Instead it should be made part of the content.

A few of the extra tips:
===============================================
- Make sure your test your performance regularly so you know what REALLY DOES work and are not just guessing.

- Don't presume that if you place more ads ona page you will earn more money.

- Use a email newsletter to get repeat visitors to your site and hence improve your traffic flows.

Should we listen to Alice?

Another website Alice seems to spend time working on is http://www.internetbasedmoms.com - It is interesting to note that although this site has a large and active forum and presumably a fair bit of traffic, there are barely any adsense ads on this site! The adsense ads that do appear on the site are the medium sized horizontal banners. The ads often appear below the fold. The ad colors used by Alice blend into the site content. The width of the ads is approximately the same as the width of the content section which also makes them blend in better with the content. This last observation I think is significant. If your website column widths can be adjusted to match the width of the adverts that you wish to display then perhaps you will have a better chance of creating the illusion that the advert is actually part of the content!

I have found a good example of a site that has adjusted the dimensions of the website to fit with the width of the google adsense advertisements. See the screen shot below.

this has produced a truly integrated adsense advertisement that looks very much a part of the content of the page.

Very useful info! I wonder if anyone really buys that ebook from Joel? LOL . Btw Glen, despite the fact that you're sticking out all those AdSense banners, I think they look prettier than most adsense banners out there :D

i thought i would try some more radical designs to see if it would increase the CTR.

i will leave it for a week or so and report back if they are working ok. the previous design was not very effective. i should probably take screen shots from now and on and report back the success rate!

:)
