Hi everyone,

What is podcasting?

In the last few days I have just discovered podcasting. For those of you who have not heard of it before, its basically recordings of internet-based radio shows that have been saved as mp3 files. The mp3 files are not accessed directly. Rather, you access the radio station podcasting feed using appropriate software and then the software downloads the radio shows for you. The podcast software will subscribe to the radio stations you select and then you can get the program to search for new radio shows that you have not yet listened to.

So what does podcasting have to do with adsense?

There are several radio stations popping up on the net that relate to affliate marketing and web page design. Many of these radio stations will have talk back radio sessions where they discuss internet advertising, including discussions of adsense!

What podcasting software do I need?
I am currently using the apple iTunes program which seems to work OK. However there are plenty of other programs (some open source) that are available.

Here is a list of radio stations that I have subscribed too -

Hi falcon,

I don't have an ipod either so i took a while to catch on! I have listened to a few of the shows above (while working on my websites at the same time) and some of them are fairly entertaining. They won't change your life but they are a good way to hear about affiliate marketing while you do something else.

Cheers

hey guys, i just got a new mobile phone that has a mp3 player and so i thought i would revisit affiliate marketing radio and listen to it while on public transport.

And its great!

One of the best shows I listened to so far was by a guy called Jeremy Schoemaker aka ShoeMoney. His radio show is called "Net Income" and I listened to an interview of another chap called Lee Dodd. Anyway it was quite informative until my battery ran low and the sound cut out.

Here is the link:

That was a little bit boring. Especially the commercials, lol.

Anyway, the best way to do well at marketing is not to be interested too much in marketing. Thinking about that, how many time do people waste just for looking up stuff like adsense tips etc, which are not actually going to lift up their revenus more than a few dollars.

And that guy is crazy. Did I hair it right - one hundred friggin' million US dollars for such an ugly-looking site?
That's insane. ;)

ah i didn't get a chance to look at his sites...so you reckon he was exagerating his earnings? i will (eventually) make some notes here about the sites that were big earners...i think there was one about cruise ships that was supposed to be a big earner. i will have to double check.

one tip that i liked was the discussion of the many ways of encouraging people to sign up to a forum.... since i have a few forums this is quite relevant to me. one idea i liked was to offer people free ebooks etc when they join up. i think this would work well and i might do it on this site to encourage new members to join up. :)

kevin - do you know of any free ebooks i can redistribute for such a purpose?

Well, I'm not sure.

However, look at his site.
Is it just me or does that site really look awful? ;)

I'm not a designer, etc, but couldn't probably get worse than that.
By the way: who would name their dating site plenty of fish? Well, if it was a fishing site - maybe. But now... It seems if he had named it plenty of morons it wouldn't make much of a difference. ;)

Anyway, I've listened to another episode. It's interesting, how they manage to get that many visitors and earn six-figure numbers from scratch...
Gotta start a community or something. ;)

i agree that http://www.plentyoffish.com/ looks crap. really with all the money the guy is making you would think he would employ a graphic designer :)

here are two of the wbesites that were mentioned by Lee Dodd. They both do very well apparently.

http://www.cruiselin...forum/index.php
http://sprintusers.com/

The sprint users forum is the bigger one of the 2. It had 190 posts in the last 24 hours which is pretty good. Not quite digitalpoint.com scale but still pretty big! They claim to have between 22,000 and 25,000 unique visitors each day.

One concept they use to promote their sites is sell premium membership. The membership benefits include:

Recognition logo (near name)
Bigger Avatar Size
More Private Message Storage
More Uploads
Colored User Name
SU$ Earned
Less Advertisements
@SprintUsers.Com Email Address
Blog Space
VIP Forum Access
SU Shirt Coupon
Arcade Tournaments & Prizes
Images in Signature
SprintUsers.Com Ebook COMING SOON!
Free Custom Avatars

I think I have a lot to learn!

the websites dont actually look that pretty (there is TONNES of ads!) but I guess if you have a huge membership you can afford to be a bit ugly. :)

the sites don't rely purely on adsense. they really have a big mix of revenue sources.

i haven't had a chance to listen yet but someone recommended to me the radio show of Won Li Do Sho (pronounced Juan Lee Dough Show). The discussion focuses on forums I am told:

http://www.forumtren.../won-li-do-sho/

I am just downloading some of the shows now. I can listen to them in the train tomorrow.

Cheers, Glen :)

i actually listened to episode 6 of the Won Li Do Sho and it was a waste of time! the presenters just like the sounds of their own voices and crack the lamest jokes ever.

also i listened to an episode of SEO rockstars and it was pretty crap. they were totally unprepared.

i came across a new one today at http://communityadmi...castnetwork.com (but i haven't listened as yet)

i listened to a show from the "domain masters" channel on webmasterradio.fm. It was an interview of Bruce Clay who runs bruceclay.com and is apparently the person who first coined the phrase "search engine optimisation".

The interview was well run and professional. Though there was not a huge amount of practical tips. The main useful concept that was mentioned was the idea of "siloing" your web content. In other words, if your site relates to 3 or 4 separate topics, you "silo" your site into discreet areas that only talk about 1 topic. And you avoid mixing concepts together on the one page.

e.g. if you had a website about SEO and domain registration (2 topics), you would not talk about the 2 ideas on the same page. this would benefit your site in the search engine rankings because it would be clearer to the search engine that you are focused on the given topics.

the actual mechanics of how to "silo" were not explained in detail but we were told that the http://www.bruceclay.com site has done this and so i guess we can simply examine the layout of that site to work out how to do it properly.

if you have a look at the sitemap you will get the idea:

http://www.bruceclay.com/sitemap.htm

cheers, glen
